Celebrations! Lights! Crackers! Sweets! Fun! Family!
Diwali is approaching we are sure you have geared up for this auspicious occasion and one of the biggest festivals in India. Children too are anticipating exciting days soon. This festival of lights & togetherness brings a lot of fun. We all love to burst firecrackers, especially the kids. But as parents, we worry a little about our kid’s safety. We have seen news about accidents with kids while bursting crackers every year.
The million-dollar question is “How to Keep Kids Safe during the Festival of Diwali?” Here are a few tips listed below by Vedant’s PreSchool in Maninagar. Have a look at them:
Keep Your Kids Under Your Supervision:
Do not let your kids burst crackers out of your supervision. Firecrackers, matchsticks, candles are dangerous and can cause damage, not just to kids, but adults as well. One must ensure strict supervision when kids are bursting crackers on the ground. Children love to experiment with crackers and we know what happens when bursting crackers carelessly? Keep your eyes on your kids and if possible, stay with them while lighting crackers.
Pro Tip: Hold your children’s hands while making a circle in the air with sparklers.
Fire One Cracker at a Time:
Children tend to do experiments with things and the same goes with crackers too. Watching multiple crackers bursting at the same time drives ones adrenaline, but a single mistake may leave an unforgettable scar. Firecrackers have unpredictable tendency to burst. It is advisable to encourage your little one to fire one cracker at a time, enjoy it and then move for the next one.
Pro Tip: Do not let your kid hold multiple crackers in hands. They might catch fire and burst immediately and burn the kid’s hands.
Keep a Water Bucket with You:
On Diwali, you must be prepared for everything from home decoration to unwanted accidents. You should teach your kids to put used firecrackers in the bucket of water, not throwing around. In case of fire, you can simply pour the water on it and avoid the major harm. What you need to do, only keep the water buckets handy.
Pro Tip: Keep a fire extinguisher, a blanket and first aid kit with you to control the situation before it may go worse.
Practice Before D Day:
4 to 8 years old kids do not have enough experience bursting crackers but the excitement level is much higher as compared to teens. Teach your young kids how to hold candles and sticks to light the crackers. Do practice with your kids and also explain why it is important. Even some best playschools in Ahmedabad teach kids how to stay safe while bursting crackers.
Pro Tip: Teach your children, not to go closer to crackers that haven’t exploded after lighting it.
Focus on Food as Well:
If you think Diwali accidents happen only due to firecrackers, you are wrong. Food is one of the biggest aspects of our festival celebrations. Eating food carelessly make you and your kids sick. Every year, several kids feel sickness and get admitted to a hospital just because of food poisoning. Be sure to purchase sweets and food items from known stores.
Pro Tip: Watch what your kids are eating and if possible stick with homemade food to avoid harms caused due to unhealthy food consumption.
